Matt Ufford threatened to file an action against the photographer, if that image was not taken down. But by then the image and the article had garnered a great deal of attention. Stokke's pole vaulting images were uploaded to an online tribute website. After the images went viral via social media platforms, online fan clubs gained thousands of new fans.
